We’ve tested a lot of vacuum-mop combos over the years and it goes without saying that these machines are a dream come true. They’re a combination of the best vacuums and the best mops and simplify your cleaning routine. But there’s one vacuum-mop that stands out as one of our favorites: the Bissell SpinWave + Vac.

This cordless machine boasts powerful cyclonic suction and allows you to vacuum, mop or do both simultaneously. Since it can be used on all sealed hard floors and has rave reviews from real shoppers, our Product Testing Team decided to take it into the Testing Lab for a closer look—nd we’re glad we did! Given its stellar maneuverability and excellent performance, this multifunctional machine is an amazing value and one you’ll wish you purchased years ago. Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about this handy household helper in our Bissell SpinWave review.

What is the Bissell SpinWave?

Bissell vacuum cleaners have been on the market since 1876. As a family-owned business, Bissell understands the need for a reliable product that’ll actually leave your home feeling clean as a whistle. Moreover, the trusted brand is also known for its love of pets. In addition to making vacuums that clean up pet hair, a portion of every Bissell purchase directly supports the Bissell Pet Foundation.

The Bissell SpinWave + Vac is an upright vacuum-mop that’s lightweight and easy to maneuver. It features 90-degree edge cleaning and lays flat in order to get under furniture. The machine includes two sets of reusable mop pads and an 8-ounce bottle of Bissell sanitize cleaning solution for hard floors so you can get straight to cleaning.

Our Product Testing Team noted that although the machine is simple to assemble, the mop pads are easy to put on and operation is straightforward, it’s important to read the instructions for setup and use to avoid damaging the machine. “You want to avoid suctioning up moisture while in the vacuum mode because the container and filters will need to be clean and dry for future operation,” explains the Product Testing Team.

When not in use, simply store this machine in the docking tray, which has raised holes to align the cleaning pads.

How we tested it

Before they got down and dirty in the lab, our Product Testing Team found that it takes two hours and eight minutes to fully charge the Bissell SpinWave + Vac. Once fully charged, it can dry-vacuum for 20 minutes, wet-mop for 60 minutes or do both at the same time for 20 minutes, according to the manufacturer (though our team ran the machine on dry-vac and mop mode for 24 minutes and 18 seconds).

Once the machine was fully charged and ready to go, our team of expert product testers spilled cereal and milk, dirt and egg with shells over vinyl flooring. Then, they ran the vacuum over each mess for three passes and evaluated how much had been cleaned. Overall, the team found this machine to be a quality vacuum with notable suction. “It did a good job picking up the dirt within three passes,” shares the Product Testing Team. It also performed well sucking up the egg and milk. However, they noted that it pushed the pieces of shell and cornflakes around instead of sucking them up.

After testing the Bissell SpinWave + Vac on various types of debris, our team vacuumed along the edges and corners of the room to evaluate how well the vacuum sucks up debris and spills all the way to the floor’s edges. “With no pads and on dry mode, it will clean the edge if you’re facing the edge, not if you run it along the edge, but this isn’t an issue since the maneuverability of it is so great and seamless,” explains the Product Testing Team. “It also has two 360-degree wheels on the back that allow for moving it easily.”

One thing to keep in mind is that with the pads on and using Dry + Wet mode, the machine doesn’t work as well in the corner because of the curved head. Our testers say it bounces away from the walls when the pads are on. Luckily, the pads are easy to take on and off—no wrestling required!

Once all of the tests were finished, it was time to clean the machine. Since it doesn’t have a self-cleaning function, our testers hand-cleaned it by emptying and cleaning the dirty water tanks, debris traps, dust bins and washable filters in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Our testers found that this vacuum-mop was easy to clean, describing the process as far less gross than other models they had tested.
