If you're the proud owner of a Vitamix blender, you'll want to hear this news.

The Vitamix blender is a big deal for many households. But there’s been some concern lately over mixers malfunctioning, and if you have one, you might want to listen in.

Blenders are great for whipping up everything from smoothies to salad dressings and even dinner rolls (here are some breakfast smoothie ideas you might want to check out). But those smooth foods and drinks may have something not-so-pleasant in them if you’ve been making them with a Vitamix.

Turns out, the top seals of the blade assembly caused small, black polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) flecks to disperse into blended foods and drinks. If you own one of the mixers in question, you could be entitled to a brand-new blade assembly or a $70 Vitamix gift card. The news comes as a result of a class-action lawsuit settled by the Vita-Mix Corporation.

According to the settlement, the blenders in question were made between Jan. 1, 2007 and Oct. 1, 2016. Commercial Vitamix blenders purchased between Sept. 15, 2015, and Aug. 9, 2016, are also eligible for the settlement. While the company agreed to the preliminary settlement, it maintains that the blenders were not defective, and stresses that the plaintiffs in this lawsuit didn’t suffer losses or injuries.

Owners of the Venturist, Ascent, and Explorian series of Vitamix blenders can rest assured that their machines are functioning as promised (sans flecks of PTFE), as these machines have not raised any parts-related concerns and were not a part of the settlement.

If you’re not sure when your Vitamix was manufactured, simply look at the blades, where the date is stamped.

What are the health risks associated with ingesting PTFE flecks? According to the legal claim, anyway, there are none. However, blenders with this issue are worth less on the resale market. (This popular blender is also under fire for malfunctioning, too.)

How do I get reimbursed?

To ensure you get your blade replacement or gift card, you’ll need to fill out the online claim form or mail in a printed claim by September 28, 2018.

If deemed eligible, you will be notified by email. Keep an eye on that spam folder, so you don’t miss the message!
