Shopping for a new mattress is nothing short of a big deal. If you’re anything like me, you’re immediately overwhelmed by all the best mattresses on the market and just end up buying another mattress topper to throw on top of your decade-old bed. However, once my sleep patterns started taking a negative hit, I knew it was time to get serious and start shopping around for replacements. Fortunately, I found an answer with The WinkBed mattress from WinkBeds.
Immediately I was faced with the big question: soft or firm? I’m the type of guy who can sleep in a multitude of different positions, so I wasn’t in the market for anything too soft but I also didn’t want anything too firm.

There are a lot of different features packed into The WinkBed mattress. As a hybrid, the main emphasis is providing comfort for the sleeper while also giving support to areas of high pressure. The mattress has a euro-pillow top with a gel-infused foam layer on top of individually wrapped pocketed coils. It also implements a support system that allows you to lay up to the edges of the mattress without feeling like you’re sagging or close to falling off.
Hot sleepers who need a bed cooling system will benefit from The WinkBed. It features patented cooling technology, and all three layers of the mattress are built with the intent of efficiently wicking away moisture and maximizing airflow. How I tested it
I’ve been sleeping on this mattress daily for the past three months. Delivery and first impression
The mattress arrived at my door rolled up in a cardboard box. Free delivery is included with the purchase, but unfortunately, especially for residents like me who are renting a third-floor apartment, white-glove service isn’t an option. You’ll definitely want to have a second person nearby to assist in hauling and unboxing. After I laid the mattress down on the bed frame, it was time to unseal the plastic wrapping. Be ready, as this mattress takes no time to fully uncompress after the seal is cut. Upon unsealing, I noticed a faint odor that gradually lessened as time went on. By the first night, the odor had vanished.
My eyes were first drawn to how clean the mattress looked—completely clear of any wrinkles or blemishes. It was calling my name, so I wasted no time hopping on and rolling around to test it out. The very first thing I noticed was how great the top layer of gel-infused foam felt. Laying for a few moments, the mattress began to gradually take the shape of my body without feeling like I was sinking in. The second thing I noticed was how supportive it felt. After dealing with a saggy middle on my old mattress, it was refreshing to feel supported from the middle all the way to the edges.
Cooling technology
I knew it would take some time to fully acclimate to this mattress due to all the different layers at work. One thing I was excited to test right off the bat was the patented cooling technology. With this mattress’s arrival lining up perfectly with the peak of summer, I knew we had a solid stress test on our hands.
After sleeping through the hottest and most humid days of the year, I can confirm that yes, the cooling technology is noticeable. Is it game-changing? Probably not (you’ll still want to add some cooling sheets), but it’s certainly noticeable. I did find myself being able to sleep under the microfiber sheets some nights, which is more than I can say about my previous mattress.
Comfort
A big selling point of the mattress is the inclusion of individually wrapped coils, a system that pushes back against greater pressure areas while plying in areas of less pressure. I’m the type of sleeper who constantly shifts through multiple positions until finally landing on one to fall asleep, so it took a few nights for me to understand that these coils combined with the gel-foam top really adhere best to sleeping on your back and stomach. So, if you’re someone who enjoys sleeping on their side, fair warning that you may want to check out the softer variant of the WinkBed mattress, as I chose the luxury firm.
However, for all the back and stomach sleepers out there, you can’t go wrong with the luxury firm. In recent years, I’ve found myself dealing with some occasional pain and tightness in my lower back. When I lay on this hybrid mattress, it feels like just the right amount of pressure is applied to contort my back while still giving it some room to breathe. Unlike the sagging from my previous mattress, The WinkBed feels as if it’s working to shape itself to best fit me.
